Madonna Monday

" Who's That Girl" is one of the rare songs that Madonna has released as a single but has performed during only one tour. That tour of course being 1987's "Who's That Girl" Tour. The song is from the film of the same name and spent 1 week at #1 in August of 87. It has been considered one of her best songs. It has been notably absent from any greatest hits album she has released. The song has always been one of my favorite Madge tunes and I have always wondered did she write the song about herself?

Sweet Melissa

Because I moved around a lot in my early years I didn't make a lot of lasting friendships plus I am really bad keeping in contact with people. I do have a few friends that have been with me through the years. The one that has remained the most important and influential friend is Melissa. Mel and I have only know each other roughly 4 years but we have been through a lot together. We met at Food-4-Less in Topeka where we both worked in the deli. Funny thing is that she did't like me at first but like a fungus, I grew on her. After breaking up with our ex's around the same time we became roomies. Even though we were only room mates for 6 months until I moved here, we bonded a friendship that we remain for along time. I miss her greatly. Nobody knows me like she does and I am gratefully she came into my life. She will always be the Grace to my Will.

Oh What A Circus, Oh What A Show

Earlier today we watched the Michael Jackson Memorial on CNN. I thought it was an appropriate send off for MJ. All freakishness aside the man was a great entertainer, whether people want to admit it or not. I remember the first album I bought ( yes I mean album as in vinyl) was Thriller. I would play that record over and over again. I believe I bought everyone of his releases up to HIStory. Songs such and 'Who Is It" , "Smooth Criminal" and " Will You Be There" remain a few of my favorite songs of all time. The latter was perfromed by Jennifer Hudson at the service and I thought she was the best of the day. Mariah Carey did "I'll Be There" and Usher did "Gone Too Soon" . I was surprised by the absense of Liz Taylor, Quincy Jones and Diana Ross. Liz did make a statement that she would rather mourn in private. Some part I felt were a bit contrived such as Usher walking to the casket as he sang and having Jackson's daughter Paris speak at the end. I do hope that finally Michael has found his peace and that he has realized that he will be missed.

Madonna Monday

On Saturday Madonna started the second leg of her Sticky and Sweet Tour at London's O2 Arena. This is the same venue that Michael Jackson was to have his come back concerts had he not passed. The buzz was that Madonna was planning this awesome tribute to M.J. and I was really excited to see what she was going to do. After watching the video I have to admit I was a bit let down. I would think that Madonna would have put forth a bit more effort. I mean don't get me wrong. I love Madonna more than my luggage but I was hoping for something more. Take for instance her inclusion of the chorus of " Bille Jean' in "Like A Virgin" during her 1985 Virgin Tour. That was awesome. The London tribute just seemed half hearted. Rarely does Madge disappoints me, I guess this was just one of those times.

Savannah 101

As I mentioned in my last post, the BF and I went to Savannah this past weekend. Aside from the true reason we were there it was a good trip. We arrived Thursday night in Atlanta. The original plan was that a friend of mine was to pick us up and we were all going to go down together but that friendship no longer exists . So we rented a car and drove to Savannah. The next morning we woke early and walked to The Lady and Son's which is Paula Deen's restaurant You have to get there early to get a reservation. We arrived at 830 am and the line was half way down the block. When they started taking reservations at 930 am the line was down wrapped around to the other side of the block. We got a dinner reservation for 6 pm that night. The rest of the day was spent walking and me showing BF the city. After awhile we went back to the hotel and rested til dinner. We arrived at Paulas at 530 pm and they have you wait in a room til you are called. We ate on the 3rd floor and had the buffet, the food was excellent. Good ole' southern friend chicken, corn bread, mashed potatoes, etc. It was awesome. After dinner we stayed in for the rest of the night.
On Saturday it was more walking and sight seeing. We toured the Mercer House. This is the house where the shooting that inspired the book " Midnight In The Garden Of Good And Evil " took place. You are only shown the first floor of the house which is gorgeous. You actually get to go in the room where the shooting to place. The house is full of art and antiques. Simply beautiful. After the tour I showed B Forsyth Park ( The picture above is the fountain in the park). Then we ate a awesome hamburger place called 5 guys. After that we just relaxed at the hotel.
Sunday we went to Tybee Island . Now before I go any further let me explain that the BF is not used to humidity. We live in Arizona were its hot but dry so he wasn't handling the weather in Georgia very well and that is why we rested at the hotel a lot. Now back to the story. We walked the beach for about 30 minutes then decided to head back. On the way to the car B announced he needed to stop and rest. A few minutes later he passed out in the sand. Luckily two ladies saw this and helped. They gave me a glass of water to give B and one of the ladies called 911 while they other cooled B off by a shirt dipped in the ice water from her cooler. The EMT and beach patrol showed up quickly. They put B in the ambulance and had him rest and cool off. after about 30 minutes they felt he was ok and let him go. i just want to say thank you to whomever those 2 ladies were. I don't know what I would have done if you had not helped. You are angels and I appreciate it all. Needless to say we just stayed in the rest of the day and my guy is fine.
Monday was court and once that was done we headed back to Atlanta. We spent the night at a AWFUL hotel near the airport ( I do not recommend Super 8 motels to anybody) and at 8:05 am Tuesday we were on the plane heading back to Phoenix.
Over all it was a good trip and I think the BF enjoyed it (Well except the beach). I am just glad to be home!

Home To Stay

We have returned from the dreaded trip to Georgia yesterday. As you may recall I went there for a court date stemming from the arrest in March of an old warrant that I did not know had exsisted. I was a nervous wreck in the days leading up to Monday. I had all these thoughts in my head of bad things that were going to happen. Would I have to go to jail again? Would I have to remain in Georgia?, etc. The Bf kept telling me everything would be Ok and not to worry. i should have listened to him because all went as well as it could. I am just glad that it is all behind me and that I can now move on. I want to thank all my friends and family for their support during all of this. I love you all!

Loss

This afternoon the BF received word that his Grandmother on his mother side has passed. I do not know a lot of their relationship except for the fact that she was his favorite Grandparent. He is holding up and is planning to go back home to Wisconsin for the service. My heart and prayers are with him as well as his family.

High School Redux

The other night the Bf and I watched a preview of a new show coming to FOX this fall called "Glee". After watching it I know for a fact that this will be my favorite show of the fall season if not one of my all time faves. The kids in the Glee club on the show all embodied my high school experience to a tee. the feeling of not belonging, feeling different, just wanting a place to belong and feel safe. In the show the rival of the glee club are the jocks. In my high school it was the band. Our band was ranked #1 in the state and so everything was about the band. I actually was in both but choir was where I felt at home. If you get a chance to see the show (I believe you can see it on Fox.com) watch it. For me it brought out the little teenaged drama/music queen from Kansas and flooded me with memories.

A Life On Hiatus

So about 10 years ago I was a bad boy when I lived in Savannah and I broke the law. My punishment was 3 years probation , to pay restitution and do 120 hours community service. I did report every month to my probation officer and never got in trouble. What I did not do was finish paying the restitution. So after my last visit with the officer I honestly never heard from them again so I went on with my life. Flash forward to March 19th of this year. My car breaks down and while waiting for the BF to come give me a ride to work , a Scottsdale police officer stops me and asks if I need help . I tell him I am just waiting for somebo0dy to come pick me up because my car broke down. He was very nice but requested to see my DL. Well after he ran it i was told I had a warrant out in Georgia and they wanted to extradite me back so I was arrested. Long story short. I was not extradited but I did spend 32 days in county jail and I have to go to Georgia on June 29th for a court date. Because of all of this my life has completely went to hell. I lost my job and my apartment and almost my car. I am now staying with the Bf and his roomie while I try to pick up the pieces again. It is very difficult to be 37 and have to start over again. I thank God that I have a BF and friends that care for me and did what they could to help. Hopefully things will go well on my court date and I can rebuild again.

Road Rage and Renaissance

So yesterday the BF and I went to the Arizona Renaissance Festival. Over all it was an enjoyable day. i will post pics on my facebook page when I can find the USB cable for my camera. What I want to discuss here is that apparently I have a bit of road rage when driving. It was awful driving on the 101 yesterday. Twice we got stuck in traffic jams because of construction. No warnings that it was coming just ..boom...your stuck. What should have been a 60 minute trip turned it a 2 and half hours. What really bugs me is when people clearly see a sign telling them they need to merge and what do they do??? Instead of merging they just keep on going right to the last possible point where they have no choice but to merge. WTF??!!! So yeah I guess I play the ass and I don't let them in. So bf was afraid I was going to get us shot at. I never knew how bad I was because when I drive I am usually by myself. When we go together somewhere he usually drives. Its funny how you never know these thngs until somebody else points them out. So to all those jerks on the 101 yesterday who wasn't let in merging traffic by a white Chevy Cobalt and to my passenger I apologize.

And The Winner Is.......

Last night the BF and I continued our annual tradition and watched the Academy Awards last night. I enjoyed more this than I have in the past. I really liked the way they present the acting awards with previous winners of the same category and I thought Hugh Jackman did an excellent job hosting. The one thing I didn't like was that whole musical number with Jackman , Beyonce and others. I feel it wasn't needed and the time they used for it could have gone to the Best Song noms so they could preform their songs in their entirity. I do admit that this year the winners were pretty predictible but I am so happy that Sean Penn won instead of Mickey Rouke. Also I am very happy for Kate Winslet. She has deserved an Oscar for so long. I mean at age 33 she has had 6 noms. Over all it was pretty enjoyable. Here is the list of winners:

- Motion Picture: "Slumdog Millionaire."

- Actor: Sean Penn, "Milk."

Slumdog Millionaire

Yesterday was movie day for the BF and I. We went and saw Slumdog Millionaire. I had reservations about seeing it. I didnt know if I would like it or not. Let me tell you I loved it. Such an awesome and moving film. I have a strong feeling that this will indeed win best picture at the Oscars next month.
In other news nothing much happening on the homefront. For the past couple of days I have had a toothache that has been coming and going. Very irritating.

" I Am Here To Recruit You"

Today the BF and i went to see the film MILK. I wanna say that the film was one of the most inspiring films I have ever seen . Sean Penn was brilliant as Harvey Milk and deserves an Oscar for his performance. I encourage everyone to see this film not just the GLBT community. Harvey's life and accomplishments are a part of our history and his story deserved to be told. Gus Van Sant did an excellent job in doing that. Please go see this film and I dare you to say that you were not moved or inspired at any time during the 2 hours and 8 minutes you are watching.

The Year Of 37

Well once again we say good-bye to another year. 2008 was a pretty good year for me . I got promoted, got a car, and moved to my new better apartment. There were only a few set backs such as my car getting hit a week after a had it and not being able to go to see Madonna in Los Angeles. I hope to make 2009 a better year. I do have a few resolutions as follows;

1. Start 2010 better of financialy than 2009
2. Read more
3. Reconnect with the Bf
4. Get into better shape
5. Keep better contact with my friends and family
I want to thank all those in my life who have been there for me and loved me during the past year. I know I don't express it a lot but you guys mean the world to me and without you I wouldn't be who I am today I hope everyone has a awesome 2009 and may it be the best year yet!
